I have never played a prana but about 6 weeks ago bought 2 monettes - STC1-5BL for big band and STC1-6 for everthing else. I was having some slight intonation issues on my Mt. V. and the intonation has improved greatly. these are the most comfortable rims I have ever used and I love the improvement in tone. I really don't care how Dave does it, backbore-cup or even magic dust, all I know it works for me and I am glad. old geezer Dave

I tried the Pranas B6 and a normal B6 and I liked the regular one better because the sound was more solid. The Pranas was very airy sounding and less focused.

best

I found tis too, but after a couple of days the sound came back to normal. Other people have reported this effect.

My understanding is that the prana mouthpieces are designed to play into the higher end of each note which is why the response seems better. The backbores and throats are bigger and the end of the shank is much thinner which may account for the increase in cost. Maybe they have a high failure rate machining soft metal that thin.

UPDATE: Started a little account to save up for a Prana. Not sure of size I'll pick. I have recently discovered I play REAL well with shallower pieces....

UPDATE (Part TWO):

Going to order a B9 (I'm debating, but I am strongly leaning towards the shallower sizes) this next week or the week after. Whenever I get my paycheck.

Hey Manny! I wonder if Mr. Monette would shave....50 dollars off the price if I told him I liked his beard?

Prana

I tried the Prana version of my B1-5M, and found that it was almost too stable. I play with electronic keyboardists and saxophone players a lot, and find that neither can be relied upon for consistent pitch, and so find I need the slightly more flexible feel of the standard Monette MP.
