And for the truly unconventional, I've seen guys do stuff with PVC tubes & caps. Storage for everything from batons, microphones, and even a single mouthpiece and even trumpets (ala Torpedo bags) What do you think?

you'd have to pad it for mouthpieces and horns, but not a bad idea...
