Need advice on trumpet mic

Probably going to need to buy a mic for my horn now that I'm playing in some blues jam bands. Can anyone advise on what to get? There are so many out there I have no idea where to start. Do I get wireless? I'm also very budget minded too. Thanks.

Re: Need advice on trumpet mic

Gday
Ive been using a JTS clipon Mic for about 12 months. This is not wireless, and requires Phantom power to run.
If you are working to a budget the JTS might be worth looking at. I paid $125AUD, so they could be around $100US.
Pros...............Inexpensive,acceptable sound quality for live gigs, easy to use,no batteries required. The goose neck can be adjusted to accomodate a mute, or swung away from the bell so the horn can be set down on a stand.
Cons..............The wire can sometimes get in the way, especially if you move around on stage, they pick up some valve rumble but this is usually lost in the mix anyway.
I bought mine as a cheap way to try out a clip on Mic, now the entire 5 piece horn section has them!
Sorry I cant provide a link to JTS, but a google search should find them. Mine is a JTS "cx 508" model.
Cheers
Laurie

Re: Need advice on trumpet mic

I have used the Shure model brem mentioned, and I have an older model Audio Technica (AT8533x) clip on. The Shure is the better of the two, but I haven't tried any current Audio Technica models so I can't compare. I have also used a Sennheiser clip-on for a few gigs. The sound is fine, but the clamp is so hard to get off your bell that it's tough to switch horns quickly or set it on the stand. I wouldn't go wireless if budget is a concern. If you're not totally sold on getting a clip-on mike, the good old Shure 57 is an excellent stand mounted mike, and cheap too.
