![]() | Re: need better mouthpiece I got a Kelly 7c to develop my tone. Not only has it done that n looks cool, but it has extended my register from a D above the stave to a G above that and helped with the lower notes too, something i do struggle with. Some may not like ppl using plastic to play on but its comfortable and kind on the lips and very cheap to try even if you decide not to use it, it costs £16 to ship to england from US! |

![]() | Re: need better mouthpiece Thanks for the help. I went to a store today and tried a few pieces and chose a Bach 1 1/2C. Big difference!

![]() | Re: need better mouthpiece I don´t know, if it´s really good to switch to bigger mouthpieces. The pros around me play mostly small ones like 14A4a, 13A4 and have a fat tone even in the deeper register. And I also envy the pros who play their mouthpiece since decades and never thought of a change. The 7C is fine for allaround, the 3C would be my suggested step, if someone really wants to get bigger. Most of the 2-3-hours-of-practice-per-week amateurs that I know have more flexibility with a bigger mouthpiece. A bigger piece makes it easier to get a section sound. One small mouthpiece can make a player very "apparent".

Learn to play with efficiency and focus in the middle of the sound and pitch, and after that is mastered experiment with larger equipment if you feel you must. By then you may find that you don't need a big mouthpiece to get a great sound. There are many schools of thought on mouthpieces. If you are going to only play a couple hours a week for fun, use whatever feels good!
