Using gold plating helped me a great deal. The feel of gold is "softer" on the chops.

I used silver for the first few years of my playing but now i will never switch back, gold retains moisture better and my endurance is better on gold, it is so much softer on the chops.

I seem to have no real difference between gold-silver-plastic. If you jam anything against your lips long enough, they'll start swelling anyway...

I was pretty sure stainless steel was already being used for certain trumpet pieces? I actually think Stomvi makes them. I know Stomvi offers the widest variety of mouthpiece materials in the world. I will have to look around again, see what all they use. I remember they use Ebonized Rubber....

UPDATE:

I realized I was mixing up TITANIUM and stainless steel. Stoopid me.

I tried a custom made SS mouthpiece made by Housers when comparing it an identical one in brass and the SS one had a brighter maybe even a harsher sound than the brass one.

best
