Re: Upper Register playing!?

Has anyone actually used the Casual Double C on this forum? I would like to hear some comments if you have.

Re: Upper Register playing!?

Im also 14, and my teacher recommends starting on a low c and moving up 2 and a half steps for four half notes, then play a c sharp and do the same thing and keep going in that pattern until your lips are completely burned out. Try to cruscendo and make sure to stay on pitch. That way, youll be able to play high notes with a quality sound. Its also fairly fast depending on how much time u put into it.

I don't know about you, but burning my lips before trying a high not is a recipe for disaster.

I was recommending it as a build excersize, so not hitting your highest note by the time you get there is not a problem.

Re: Upper Register playing!?

Anybody have the Frank Minear range method? Heard it's awesome. I've been trying to track it down for months. Think it's out of print...

Re: Upper Register playing!?

the problem is that i dont know which octave youre talking about. Are you talking about an f on the top ledger line or the one above that?

Re: Upper Register playing!?

There is no magic mouthpiece or trumpet that will allow you to play high. Stick with something in the 7c, 5c, 3c, range and then get in the practice room and work your butt off. The best things for that I think are things like the Bai-Lin, Colin Advanced Lip Flexabilities, Irons 27 studies. Also Schlossburg. Work on getting the middle range to sound really good and the upper range will come. For a High School student if they can play the range F# below the staff to hi c (above the staff) they are doing really well and the college professors can work with developing beyond that. Slow and patient is the way to develop range. Always think about sound does it soudn good if it doesn't stop and just concentrate on the sound if you cant get it with a good sound after 2 or 3 tries drop it for the day and come back to it another day.

Re: Upper Register playing!?

Colin is a great book... play everything soft and with a full sound. Not only will your range expand... your flexibility will be much improved.

Re: Upper Register playing!?

I agree with the others that the Charles Colin book is very good for range, tone and endurance. good luck!
