Re: Valve oil

Ewetho,After passing the spitball through your horn a few times, dry it off with a paper towel and pass it through a few more times to dry it out. Also I apply a few drops of oil on the spitball and run it through a few times ocasionally. The spitball comes out dirty due to the cleaning agents in the oil and it also helps with corrosion.

Re: Valve oil

After finding this great thread, I just ordered the UltraPure kit with the valve oil and heavy and light slide grease. I have used Schilke slide grease for a long time (I like the lanolin smell, I'm partial to it because we have sheep, I think) but will try this. I've always wondered about the organics from the lanolin in the slide grease.

I am guilty of being an Al Cass user. I didn't realize it could hurt the horn until I started reading TM, and will be switching to UP exclusively assuming I like it.

Re: Valve oil

Al Cass will not hurt your horn. Not using a lubricant in the required way will. One just needs to know that petroleum products should be applied daily (on clean and dry valves and casings!)!

Re: Valve oil

I am almost sad to say that I switched back to Al Cass
My valves weren't as fast as a friend of mine who was using it, and I tried a switch and the response changed. Much faster. (Whoops...)

Re: Valve oil

I used Hetman light on all of my trumpets for the last 10 years. Before that, I used Al Cass. When making the switch, my trumpets felt like they had new valves.

I ordered Ultra Pure Oil, and tuning slide lubes after all of the great reviews on this sight. I am very happy with the products. they are all great, and would recommend them to anyone. Thanks Ken.

Re: Valve oil

I use Ultra Pure on all of my horns. It works really really well. I'm sure that you'll enjoy them. If you've used other oils, however, be sure to rinse them really well before putting on synthetic oil. Might be a good time to give the horns a bath.

Re: Valve oil

I've been meaning to try Zaja and Ultra Pure, but Al Cass works perfectly on my Schilke so I've never had much reason to switch.
