![]() | Re: What valve oil do you use??? There's also the wonders of body chemistry affecting, etc. and blah blah anywho I dunno, Al Cass has worked for me, and I know a player who uses it for everything he plays (yamaha, getzen, schilke, bach) I think it has more to do with the player than the horn... unless its yamalloy valves

![]() ![]() | Re: What valve oil do you use??? Because of my sizeable 'accumilation' of horns, some don't get played very frequently. This causes siezed valves, if they had been lubed with Cass Fast. I started using various grades of Hetmans Synthetic valve oil about two years ago and wonder how I could get any happier with the slippery stuff on my lightning fast valves. It seems that the stuff is still there and working wonders after months of storage. OLDLOU>>

![]() | Re: What valve oil do you use??? I will chime in about UltraPure. I liked BiNak, but it was not equally good in all my horns. Ultra Pure is wonderful. It freezes in the bottle in winter, though it thaws quite rapidly and lubes fine even when my horn is too cold to play. A long time ago, there was SlickStuff. No longer available. Dalbey's of Omaha was pretty good. No longer available, I think. I never thought UltraPure Lamp Oil (apparently an entirely different product than UltraPure valve oil) was all that great, despite glowing reports and reviews from people like Clint McLaughlin aka Pops. |

![]() | Re: What valve oil do you use??? Ultra Pure all the way!!! First give your trumpet a good cleaning, then only use only ultra-pure valve oil and ultra-pure slide grease and you will never see that black gunk again! It keeps the oxidation down and valves looking and playing like new. For my 1st and 3rd slides, I apply a little Ultra-Pure valve oil with Ultra-Pure slide grease. I tried Al Cass, Zaja Scented, and Zaja Blue. Zaja Blue is real good, but not as good as Ultra-Pure. |

![]() | Re: What valve oil do you use??? Maybe the millionth oil thread! ;) I love La Tromba T2. I use Ultra-Pure slide greases, and they're fantastic, so I'd assume that Ultra Pure oil is great too.

![]() | Re: What valve oil do you use??? So, so far from what I'm seeing, Ultra Pure is pretty much the highest used! I gotta get me some!!!

![]() | Re: What valve oil do you use??? Two years ago I got my Getzen Eterna Flugel from the 1970´s. For about 18 months I came mad about valves working .After an hour playing it seemed that oil escaped from valves. I tried five different oils, all of them very famous. Six months ago I became to life with Ultra Pure. They work fantastic an I never had trouble again. Anyway I must tell that for more than 30 years I´ve been using Holton for my trumpet with excellent results. |

Oil has two functions - keeping the valves moving and preventing wear. When you oil your valves properly, you remove the sludge that has collected from the aerosols in your breath as well as expose the metal on the valve and casing so that the oil covers the metal. If the valves are not bone dry, the oils will float on top of the moisture, the valves still go up and down smoothly BUT WATER is the reason, not the oil. Water does not have good wear protection properties. If your friends oil had problems, it was YOUR method of oiling (not cleaning the valve/casing, mixing various types of oil............) not the oil. The major difference is in petroleum or synthetic oils. Petroleum based oils evaporate after a day or so and require oiling very often. Synthetic oils do not "evaporate" and last longer with the danger of not getting the contaminants flushed out. Pick your poison!
