| Fortissimo User | Some time ago I said I'd ordered one of the new ProTec 301 VAX cases to hold the two horns that were "done" by Leigh. Well, after a 11? week wait I can say it was worth the delay. ![]() I'm tall, but the built-in handle is more than adequate for me to reach without haveing to bend down or sideways. ![]() The case appears to be very solid and protective and has some really nice touches such as a velcro flap to hide/cover/protect the zippers and their lock, a handy zippered (but 'hidden') pouch to hold mouthpiece/oil, etc., convenient rings for a shoulder strap (or extra mute bag). ![]() Two thumbs up... I'll be using this one whenever the "twins" go out together! |

| Forte User | That looks like a pretty sweet case. Do they make a combo for flugel too? If so, it looks like ProTec has bested itself on the combo case market! |

| Fortissimo User | Actually, that case IS designed for trumpet/flugel. I purchased it because the valve section on the "old" wrap Eterna cornets is too tall to fit in their "regular" triple case. Edit: Get it? "too tall"? ![]() |

| Fortissimo User | No.. most definitely not. The trumpet is an Eclipse Medium Red that was part of Leigh's "annual" trumpet contest. The cornet is a 1972 Getzen Eterna 800 large bore that Leigh refurbished/rebuilt and refinished while he was building the trumpet... I wanted a "matched set" and the opportunity was one of those "once in a lifetime" deals. More about them in the Eclipse forum under the threads about the contest. |

| question about the VAX case Tootsall, Great pictures of what looks like a great case. One question: with the case upright and fully loaded, including the music pouch, does it remain well balanced, or is there any tendency to pitch forward and fall over? |

| Fortissimo User | tptdoofus; interesting question. I'd read in another forum about a potential problem with stability. I've not loaded up the pocket and probably won't (I have a shoulderbag that I use to carry my music folders, mutes (6?), horn stands, tuner etc. in so there's no point. I set the case upright on the garage (flat concrete) floor and tried tipping it "front and back" with the handle. The case is quite stable in all 4 directions of tipping but IS noticeably less stable in the "forward" (towards the pocket) direction. I've already emailed Jeff Hawley at Protec and suggested that they consider using some shims and find out what additional "leg length" is needed to balance the case "perfectly" with the pocked loaded up. As is, however, I find it pretty darn stable... certainly moreso than it looks. |
