![]() | Re: Wooden Mouthpieces One of my former teachers would insist we play one of his wooden mouthpieces if we played rotary trumpet with him in the local orchestra. They made a nice enough sound but I hated the way they felt. It was a really strange sensation. I saw...I'm blanking on the name...he recorded the Charlier book for the ITG...play one during a master class. He sounded good! J.

![]() | Re: Wooden Mouthpieces Kanstul also makes wooden mouthpieces, or at least the cups, I don't know if they make any with an integrated rim, the one I saw was just the cup threaded for a backbore and a rim.

![]() | Re: Wooden Mouthpieces That's David Baldwin at the U of M. I played Easter with him last year, and I think he popped that guy in for one or more tunes. Yup--he sounded great on everything (amazing pic player). I'll pay more attention this year. |

| New Friend | Re: Wooden Mouthpieces I've got one of the Kanstul "Woody" cups for my Parke mouthpiece. Been using it for Eb and it does cut down the harshness of the Eb. Still sounds light like an Eb should, but I can lean into it a bit more now without it getting out of hand. I've also played one some of the entirely wooden rim/cup mouthpiece and they are very interesting. Great sound that would be perfect for solo work and camber work(One of the trombone professors at Indiana University plays on one of the Kelly mouthpieces, bright green, for everything he does that's not with an orchestra). Something is to be said for the mouthpiece made of alternate materials. More colors to add to our palate. |

| Fortissimo User | Re: Wooden Mouthpieces So, A trumpet with a wood mouthpiece, would that make it a woodwind? Heck, Saxes are all brass minus the reed and corking on the neck, and flutes, how many wood flutes do you see around?

![]() | Re: Wooden Mouthpieces Well it wood be hard to have a wooden mouthpiece goldplated (my preference - everything wood be different woodn't it, the sound the feel, and the look? Thinks, I wonder where you could order a wooden trumpet - woodn't that be cool (although obviously not quite as cool as brass in the winter). Reminds me of a little story: "I had a wooden whistle, and it wooden whistle - so I bought a steel whistle, and it steel wooden whistle - now I've a tin whistle and now I tin whistle". No, I'm not going to explain the punch line.

![]() | Re: Wooden Mouthpieces Hey everyone first time posting!!! Long time trumpet lover!!! But to be on topic: Has anyone ever heard of or tried this manufacturer of wooden mouthpieces? -> Theperfectwood??? I'm very interested in ordering from them...probably in a month or so, but I'm kind of scared that they may not be legit or that they may not be very high quality. The mouthpieces definitely look amazing but that reveals nothing about its playing. I might just give in without any advice but it would sure make me feel better to know someone has had some sort of experience with them. |
