Re: Xstream mouthpieces

My experience, ROWUK, all be it limited, tells me that if you or anyone else wants to try a new mouthpiece, trumpet or anything else, then go for it. The point of my statement, however, was that I don't see any need to get on here a bash people. I understand that people have opinions, that is part of makes us human. And I truely want to hear everyones opinion, that is how we learn new things. But for god's sake, can we give an opinion and then move on, instead of catfighting for 3 pages on the validity of some guys product? Just my opinion... I gave it, and it is the last you will hear from me... on this issue ;)

'Chris,
if my customers had placed their orders when I told them to, I wouldn't be as hard up for time. I think I am going to need another couple of weeks. The projects are real brain drainers!'

Look forward to it Robin. Just wish i could talk you into using Lynch's asymmetrics. That'd make for'a good thread as well, to my thinking. I'll be using them from the start as a beginner and can offer feedback from that perspective. And obviously review from an experienced player would be some great comparison on many points.

Chris,
no chance. What I have works for me. I discover at least weekly new things about my playing - most good! To get involved in R+D I would have to give up many of the wonderful things going for me now.
I have a better idea (at least I think so), join me. Get that horn and get started. You have my help guaranteed!
Robin

I sure envy your advanced and continued learning there Robin. It's great to hear that's the way of things. -Shouldn't be too much longer now, and i'll be getting after things myself. That's gonna be some good fun.

As it is, i'm much indebted already to your help.

Re: Xstream mouthpieces

Hey guys:

Just wanted to let you know that I called this gentleman to ask him about his mouthpieces. He is a real deal player, very informative and a very nice guy........man, he could talk trumpet endlessly. I told him what I currently play and what I was looking for. He will be doing some research and getting back to me on his suggestions. At this point I feel very comfortable doing business with him and will be ordering one of his mouthpieces. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

Re: Xstream mouthpieces

Currently I play a Reeves Dynamic Mass 43M. Played it for 5 years, but always felt like I wanted more body in the sound. I recently opened it from the standard 28 to a 26 it loved it for a few days. Lately though, many strange things are starting to happen.....especially in articulating the upper register.

I am willing to try this mouthpiece and lets see what happens........I hope this road is not as dangerous as the trumpet safari road is!

Re: Xstream mouthpieces

The mouthpiece safari is much much much worse than the trumpet safari. Be careful!!

No surprise with the bigger throat - it makes the slots fuzzier. More body means more cup volume with a matching backbore. Opening the throat is generally not a good solution - it is just cheap and gives us something "modified" which is ALWAYS better (note: sarcasm here!).

Did you happen t ask Reeves on his opinion??? Curious. A change to say a 43D or 43C underpart might have been all you needed without changing your playing interface at all. Worth a call at least....

Heck they even mention that it is normal to play a slightly deeper cup than you normally might with it. So being that shallow may have a bit of a drawback on overall sound quality.
