Re: Your Favorite Mouthpiece Is?

Having just started playing again, right now my jet tone custom MF works best. I have Schilke 14, Schilke 6a4a, jet tone t2c , jet tone custom MF and a Bach 7c.

Re: Your Favorite Mouthpiece Is?

Hi TrumpetMaster:
Yes, I have been out of town. I have not posted in for several weeks. I have a Vacation house in Langloise, Oregon between Bandon and Port Orford, Oregon. There is no internet service there other than dial up. Anyway, Merry Christmas to all and welcome to all who have started playing again. I have been playing recently with a group of strings, a viola, two guitars and a stand up base. As usual, I'm the only b-flat instrument. This usually means transposing much of the music. I am considering buying a trumpet in the key of C...any suggestion would be much appreciated as to a make or model. Thank you all so much for your encouragement and support. Sincerely, Leland B. Tanquary. Note: I have been playing now for about three months after a 20 year break in playing my horn.

Re: Your Favorite Mouthpiece Is?

I have a Bach 7c and 5C and a kelly 7c. I love the kelly, but I have to say the Bach 5c is my favorite for it's fully bodied sound.

Re: Your Favorite Mouthpiece Is?

I forgot to mention my mouthpiece: Frankholton 60-A GOLD PLATED Elkhorn, Wis. and Reynolds 7-B C. Also have many others but I use these two with my Contempora trumpet a Cleveland Ohio Roth Reynolds horn made around 1950.Sincerely, Leland B. Tanquary

Wedge 3B and 8* Warburton. It's my holy grail of mouthpieces.

Re: Your Favorite Mouthpiece Is?

I use three different, but close in size and dimension.
The Bach is a good all-around peice.
The Karl Hammond for Jazz and Big Band work.
The Schilke for more "Pops" and Orchestra work.

#1 - MV Bach 3B - Customized by Josh Landress, # 24 Throat & a Reeves #4 Sleeve in a Chicago Benge 3
#2 - Karl hammond Design 5L in my Conn Constellation 38B
#3 - Schilke 17D4D in my Chicago Benge

Re: Your Favorite Mouthpiece Is?

HI very nice. I would like to expand on my trumet to a "chicago" from my old contempora horn, and perhaps change to a diffrent mouth piece like a Bach, Hammond or Schilke....love the Conn Constellation horn, may I ask what year? I'm afraid I use an old gold plated frank Hoton 60- A mouthpiece for Jazz and a contempora Reynolds 7-B C for concert sound and for a lead I use an asymemtric 342 but seem to have trouble adjusting well to it so I usually go back to my trusty Frank Hoton as I have mentioned above...however, I have often wondered about a glass mouthpiece...like some clarinets use to use, actually, My Dad was a Music Instructor, band leader, choire director... and used to play in the Sana Cruz Beech Band back in the 40s and 50s, used a glass clarinet mouthpiece. Has any one tried a glass trumpet mouthpiece...probably it does not work well or resonate well otherwise, we would see some being made :), I would buy one just out of curiosity to try..and if I were a glass blower...I would make one. Just a dream, a thought and kind of nostalgic due to my Dad's glass Clarinet mouthpiece he loved and used through out his music career, Thank you for comments and cri~tics...always enjoy Trumpet Masters support and help, by the by...there is a Trumpet Master Comercial Music store now here in Medford OR..97501..is this store related to this web site? Sincerely, Leland B. Tanquary

Re: Your Favorite Mouthpiece Is?

Hey Leland,
My Chicago Benge is a 1953 and the Constellation 38B is a 1963.
A mouthpiece is a personal choice.
I play with guys who are using old Rudy Muck 13C's and one that uses a $400.00 Monette, and they all play very well.
It's what suits you and your style of playing along with the sound you are wanting to produce.
There are trumpet players playing some very unusual MP's - they like them - and do well with them.
