![]() | In defense of Trompetvrouw's post I too was ready to blame the media when I saw how blown out of proportion the media coverage was getting....but then I have to remember they are getting there info from someone right? I had heard on the radio today the rescue worker who was relaying messages from inside the mine to the surface was wearing a protective mask and it was very hard to understand his radio transmissions. So I am thinking as soon as the words "12 Found Alive" are heard no matter how garbled it may sound that is some great news to get out to the public...unfortunately it did not turn out that way.

![]() | I wonder whatever happened to the newspaper adage "If your mother says she loves you check it out." Where you double and triple check and then check again every piece of information before it is published (broadcast) I find the media (TV & radio in particular) doesn't do a very good job with this. It seems like there is this contest on who can get the story out first not who can get the story out accurately. There has been a lot of this from both presidential elections, 9/11 coverage etc. IMO i don't care who gets it out first, I just want to hear it accuratly

![]() ![]() ![]() | Who wrote the story that the miners were at the church celebrating with their families??!! I guess the story about the reporter Steven Glass who made up all of his stories has been forgotton. Recently in Detroit, the famous sports writer and author Mitch Albom was cought writing a completely false story about a Final Four basketball ball game he did not attend. People were outraged about that too, but he got a very small tap on the wrist. No wonder the media cannot be trusted!!!!! -cw-

![]() | One of the big problems with the media today, I have come to understand from listening to media analysts, is that although they do check before a story is printed or presented, they check WITH EACH OTHER rather than the people involved. I have heard this from various sources over and over. This has been, apparently, a huge problem in Iraq and Afghanistan. Anyway, my heart goes out to the families of the miners. It's interesting to hear the reports about their slow, peaceful deaths. Those notes that they were able to write were meaningful for the families left behind, I would have to believe. ML |
