Re: Anthem at Sun's Game last night

I just received a message from my friend Tim with a link to our National Anthem performance. Enjoy!

Quote:
These videos were taken on a small digital photo camera - but still the quality is Ok. Later, The Sun"s Organization will send us their official professional video of this performance. That one will be better quality. The other videos are what I consider the "ambience" of the night. ENJOY! Timothy Moke

L-R: Keith LaSpaluto, Matthias Merki (Switzerland), Derek Reaban, Timothy Moke, Bruce Legge, Rogerio Araujo, Tommy Johnston

Mike,

This “group” has been around in one form or another for at least 15 years. It started when Tim and I were playing in a brass quintet years ago. He would find Church jobs for two trumpets and invite me to play. We added another player for an Antiphonal performance at a 5th grade beginning band concert years ago (Tim is an Elementary School band director). Then it was 4 or 5 of us for some Festival Sundays at a big Church in the East Valley. We did the Suns, Diamondbacks, and Roadrunner Hockey several years ago and now the Suns again.

There’s certainly never a dull moment when I get a call from Tim for a job! Always well organized and fun.

Re: Anthem at Sun's Game last night

Well Done Derek!

I've recently been (railroaded) appointed to serve on the Board of directors for the community band I play in. I'm the publicity chair.

After seeing your origianl post I thought wow what a great way to generate publicity for the band.

I'm actively trying to persude my fellow board members to allow a small ensemble to play the national anthem before a Columbus Cottonmouths Hockey game here in town.

I've run into a surprising amount of resistance from fellow board members who are not thrilled about using the community band's name in a performance that does not involve the whole band.

You guys sounded great!

With a little luck I'll be posting something similar in the near future.

All the best,
John

Re: Anthem at Sun's Game last night

Thanks for the background Derek. It's good to know that something like that group has endured the introduction of electronic music and those "would be" singers of the National Anthem.

John,

When I was at Benning, I remember playing at a Cottonmouth game with a brass quintet. It was the best gig I did in Columbus! Hope that the board doesn't stand in the way and if they do, you can always get a group together to play a game and go by a different name. I hate politics!

Re: Anthem at Sun's Game last night

I think we're going to do it for sure; I have lobbied enough support from the other board members.

Either way Mike; I'll post about it.

Derek; sorry for sort of hi-jacking this....

I guess you just inspiried me so.
