![]() | Herb Alpert is Why I played trumpet, also! Like previous posters here, Herb Alpert is why I took up trumpet, also! My admiration for what he as accomplished has no bounds. I heard him live when I was a kid at the St. Louis Muny Opera. Several years ago I had two phone conversations with Mr. Alpert. He had stumbled across some of my stuff on the internet and wanted to exchange ideas about trumpet playing. He was willing to pay me for lesson time on the phone. I told him that the only payment I required were some war stories about the TJB and A&M records. I had a great voice mail which I saved for quite along time till I missed the auto delete funciton one day on my voice mail. It was probably for the best that I no longer have his phone number. Several of my friends were urging me to bug him about record companies and my do-it-your-self recording work. I never did. I felt that would have violated a trust he had in me to NOT do that when he left a Malibu pnone number. It was quite cool. We talked on Friday night and than again on Saturday morning for a total of about 2 hours. I sent him a copy of my old trumpet book (Embouchure Design) and he sent me a copy of his artwork book (he is into painting and sculpture these days). Ah, to achieve a fraction of what he did! Thanks for the thread and the chance to reminisce a bit. Nick
