![]() | Okay, here's a couple gripes I have with the shows... and keep in mind, I still love it... just things I would do if I ran the world... To start with... "you may take the field" WHAT??? They are usually already all over the field. Not fair. They should be able to start from any of the 3 sides of the field... OFF the field. If you can't play your instrument and march... then GO AWAY. Although I love the sound of all the percussion add-ons... they might as well set-up a stage. Great talent, great sound... but heck, I bet the brass players could do a better job is they could just stand there and play. AND.. with all due respect to the "visual artists" ... if you ain't got a flag in your hands get off the field... Now apologies to all... no harm intended.. just an opinion... and I still love the stuff... |

![]() | Good Point, If You Don't have The Flag/Sabre/Rifle, dont be out there, and that "you make take the field" is quite annoying. They do it at my marching competitions, dont get why though I have to Agree With Trumpet Blower, it took a hands on experience in our chool marching band to make me know what goes in to these performances, and what makes them so good. |

| Forte User | "You may take the field" comes from way back in the beginning of the activity. Corps had to begin on the back line (if you've heard the opener termed "off the line", that's where it comes from). They were positioned behind the back line of the field, and had to literally "take the field" to begin competition. It has come so far since then...
