What I have seen and heard of Botti is a really nice guy who stresses education up there with performing and puts all he has into both. He is sharp and down to earth. I respect his success and appreciate his enthusiasm in educating audiences about music. He has done well targeting the young audiences to drum up interest. When it comes to exposure to live music, they need all of the help they can get. Last edited by Alex Yates; 08-10-2006 at 01:04 AM. | |

![]() | ????? You really need to check out the stuff Botti has done with David Torn, Bill Bruford, and Tony Levin. This give you a somewhat educated idea of what he is doing besides the PBS stuff. It's very creative and fresh sounding. Biography From All music by Jason Ankeny Though best-known as a contemporary jazz performer, trumpeter Chris Botti made his initial splash on the pop music scene. A native of Oregon, he started playing at the age of ten, and while still in high school began performing professionally. After studying in the prestigious Indiana University music program under the noted jazz educator David Baker, Botti relocated to New York where he served with saxophonist George Coleman and trumpet great Woody Shaw; under the guidance of producers including Hugh Padgham and Arif Mardin, he swiftly emerged as a highly regarded pop session player, lending his trumpet to recordings from figures including Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, and Thomas Dolby. In 1990, Botti was asked to join Paul Simon's band, where he remained for the next five years. Finally, in 1995, he recorded his solo debut First Wish, a record combining the sounds of contemporary pop-jazz with the textures of art rock. After scoring the 1996 film Caught, Botti resurfaced in 1997 with his second LP, Midnight Without You, which was followed by Slowing Down the World in 1999. Two years later, he was a featured soloist on Sting's "Brand New Day" world tour, and that time allowed Botti to rediscover old musical passions and create new ones. Night Sessions (2001), which was recorded in Los Angeles, captured such jazzy pop. That muse was explored further in 2003 with Thousand Kisses Deep, and to a lesser extent on the more tradtional orchestral jazz of 2004's When I Fall In Love. To Love Again: The Duets followed in 2005.

| Piano User | "It sounds like the original poster has more of an axe to grind with Botti, and not so much "the singer". I think that "Botti bashing" is replacing "Monette bashing" as the single most popular TM topic. Pretty weak." Just be grateful Botti does not play a Monette.

![]() | Re: Chris Botti's condescension I would like to bash someone but I can't seem to find a pro that my limited talent surpasses. I'm going to keep looking and when I find that someone they are going to be my target. lotsa luck of that ever happening. Dave

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Chris Botti's condescension Uhhh, this Vulgano doesn't know anything about Chris Botti other than he plays trumpet, and therefore nothing about him on PBS. I do know that Deecy gave his opinion, and I'm hearing a lot of other people's opinions as well, which is wonderful, but when we start posting opinions about other people's opinions in a year-old thread, we are not being too productive, in my opinion, anyway.

![]() | Re: Chris Botti's condescension Sometime I think that people just sit around trying to think of something negative to say. So you don't like the way Chris Botti introduces his guest performers? I guess the performers don't mind it much. They seem to love to perform with Chris. Take a look at his "live" album. He had amazing talent show up to only perform a single piece. I have always been impressed with how many artists perform with Chris. I think the other artists must really like him. He always seems to enjoy sharing the stage with them and they him. I think we are lucky to have him around and performing. He inspires and brings back so many to jazz and pop. By the way, I have heard Renee and think she is terrific. If you didn't like that performance, well. Are you a performing musician? Are you amazing every time? Greg
