| New Friend | OK, since you are so big on facts, lets have them. This is just a perception put forth by the media and the Dems. Greg Quote:
In the conservative opinion the US federal government has grown ridiculously large and taken on so many projects that it has no right being involved in. The federal govt. should ONLY be involved with issues of national security, NOT education, NOT healthcare, NOT liberal arts, NOT civilian disability, NOT minimum wage, NOT civilian retirement... Greg Okay, but my point is that both parties are quilty. You might suggest that it's a guilt by degree and that the Democrates are more guilty. That could be true but our current government is entirely controlled by the Republicans at this point - that's all 3 branches. The Repulacans have had plenty of time to move on cutting these unwanted programs on your list. Of course, such ideas are not even on the agenda and never will be. Speaking of education, Bush is here in my area today (Knoxville Tennessee) visiting several schools in an effort to trumpet his education nitiative called "No Child Left Behind". What a crop of crap that is. When the federal govt. got into these areas it started raising taxes, unconstitutionally. The IRS became powerful and lobbying to get tax exemptions and pet programs became epidemic. We don't need better "policies, proposals, performance" in Washington, DC. We need the fed. govt. to do its constitutional job and nothing more. Greg That's fine. I couldn't agree more. But again, both political sides are guilty of this nonsense. Also, I'll not jump in on the recently passed health care issue, since you'd probably want some sort of factual proof that the Republicans recently pushed that goofus package down our throats. The US Congress is the worst of all and appears to me to be manned by professional liars and con artists, who lie to each other, their constituents and perhaps most egregious of all, they can even manage to lie to themselves. It's a pretty sorry government we have at the present in my view and I see no big changes coming up on the horizon. My gut feeling is that the best government is a divided government in which no single party controlls all 3 branches. Otherwise, in my view we can expect to see more liberalism and blurring between the two parties. Larry | |

| No BS, Lets not pigeon hole ideas here. Just because I think Dean is a dufus doesn't mean I think Bush and all the Republicans are perfect. My first choice in 2000 and 1996 was Alan Keyes, not G.W. But, I am a realist. I must vote for the candidate that has a good chance to win that most closely supports my conservative views. No democrat even comes close. Every Dem. candidate I've ever seen thinks the govt. can run my life better than I can. My brand of conservatism is fairly well summed up by CATO institute: http://www.cato.org/about/about.html. Until people realize the tremendous cost of asking the govt. to solve their problems things will not improve because the federal govt. has no reason to do things in a cost effective, timely manner. Case in point, it wasn't until UPS and FedEx came on the scene that the US Postal service started tightening up its belt. If you have ever worked in the civilian side of our defense industry you would know that we have the best military equipment in the world because of intense competition among private companies to win DOD contracts. Fair competition is what makes the country strong, not more wasteful, social programs. Greg |

| The New York Times is a less than reliable news source. * cough cough* Jayson Blair *cough cough* ...and his colleagues didn't even catch his erroneous info. Speaking of Bill Frist....when he was in Africa with some other Senators a few months back, he separated from the group to give free medical care to Africans. This included surgery. Nice guy.... |
