Re: Eclipse's Newest Endorsed Player Pat Harbison

Pat,

You'll have to keep the Bach to do your lead pipe warm-up on!!

They look and sound great (having actually tried an MR and flugel)

Regards,

Trevor

Actually, I persuaded Leigh to make me a separate leadpipe just for this warmup! Of course, Leigh was kind enough to also have that plated in 24kt gold as well!!!

Bling!

In all seriousness, Alex and I so enjoyed working together that we are planning concert and clinic presentations that demonstrate how everyone these days (from "either side") needs to be able to cross over, both for the development of their musicianship and for actual employment!

Incidentally, we will also demonstrate just how wonderful and versatile these great Eclipse trumpets are! If any of you are interested in hosting such a concert and/or clinic please contact Alex or me!
Thanks for answering that Pat. I was waiting for you to get settled in to announce our future collaboration on just these very things. I really enjoy working with you and when we played duets, it was sealed. It is great to have a colleague with which things click so well on so many levels that working together is tons of fun and creatively stimulating. The Hakan recital we witnessed together was a result of the fact that he and Colin (the percussionist) clicked so well as musicians and people on a gig that they developed their incredible presentation and are now performing modern music together as a duo....as a team. And as a wonderful layer to this collaboration, yeah, we are also a comedy team. Leigh (and several others) can verify that.

Newtpt - honestly, do you know how many times I have heard your exact "couple/married" comment when playing educational quintet gigs? (literally, it happens all of the time on those gigs) The difference there is that the comment is usually coming from an elementary school student. As shocking as it may be to see a woman playing a trumpet for a living along side men, certainly you don't think I am married to every single trumpeter I perform and work with, do you? Get my point?

Alex,

I thought we had something good going...

It's funny what people will write on this site.

Again congrats to Pat. Can't wait to hear you on the horns at the ITG.

Best,

T

Re: Eclipse's Newest Endorsed Player Pat Harbison

Sure, I can see your point Newtpt if you are new to the boards, don't know us from Adam, or the fact that I am also an artist endorsed by Eclipse. No harm done. It's kind of funny actually.

As far as the vibe you received from the photos, I am going to quote RichardWy on this one (I hope you don't mind Richard)

"I like to see the expressions of genuine joy and camaraderie."

THAT is what you are seeing.

Where are my manners .....Thank you for the well-wishes to PH and I. We are thrilled about the future master classes and artistic collaboration.

PH-

I may have missed the discussion somewhere along the line, but from reading your posts on TH and here, it seems that you have been a Bach player for a long time, and happy with your Bach. What prompted you to consider switching instruments?

Thanks.

In a nutshell, it was first and foremost trying the Eclipses at ITG (the ones Leigh brought and Lara's "cheesy" little beauty) and then subsequently playing on Alex's horns and hearing how wonderful she sounds on them.

Following that came the corporate wierdness at Conn-Selmer and the worry that the Bach line was possibly going in a direction where it might no longer be something I could endorse regarding reliability and quality. There are still some great folks at Bach (i.e. Tedd Waggoner), but so many of the people I have enjoyed working with these many years have already left the company.

Finally, it was sealed by my great interactions with Leigh, John and the others at Eclipse.

As I get used to these instruments and as they get broken in I will post some comments. First impressions are that this is the best flugelhorn on the planet and the trumpet is much easier to play than the Bach, yet it still sounds like a real trumpet...unlike other makes that have a user friendly interface and sound like non-trumpets.

You're welcome.

p.s. Welcome to TM! Nice first post.

We at Hosaphone(tm) Headquarters heartily congratulate Mr. Harbison
and hope that he does not forget his roots and let this go to his head.

Since we do not see Eclipse as a competitor we do not believe there is a conflict of interest.
