| Mezzo Piano User | [quote="bandman"]I don’t think that anyone has mentioned the wonderful music of Vaclav Nelhybel. SYMPHONIC MOVEMENT and TRITTICO were two of my all time favorite selections. Glad that you mentioned these bandman, they are both great pieces. I played them in high school for the Texas Honor Band Competition and the 1st part on Symphonic Movement was a real bear to handle after playing Eagle Squadron March and Jubilant Overture just moments before. Mind you, it was one on a part so it was a real challenge. I played Trittico the year prior and it was tons of fun as well. I sure do miss those days sometimes. How about Pines of Rome........now that's fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Fortissimo User | I was just going through some old recordings of our past concerts and a memory got triggered: another great piece for trumpets is "Roller Coaster" by Johnny Cowell. Mr. Cowell is/was 1st trumpet with the Toronto Symphony and wrote this piece as a special bit to showcase the trumpet section when the TSO made a tour to Bejing several years ago. It is interesting because it has some quick fingerwork, is nice and showy, but isn't "in your face and in your ears" typical trumpet stuff. If you get a chance, check it out. |
