![]() | Fur coats? Anybody know anything about fur coats? My great aunt who passed away a short time ago had what appears to be a leopard skin coat from Kenya. Just trying to ascertain its value.

![]() | Make sure you keep it away from Hanoi Jane Fonda, and her bunch.....lest you end up with red paint sprayed all over it. My suggestion would be to look in the Yellow Pages for a Furrier near you and get it professionally appraised. Personally, I would sell it. |

| Fortissimo User | You probably can get it appraised... while it is illegal to import into certain countries certain species (or parts thereof), and may be illegal to trade or traffic, it should be OK to actually own (assuming that you can provide provenance that predates the coat to the laws prohibiting importation). I know that I was once able to purchase a pair of armadillo-skin boots.... but they had to have a stamp on the inside of the hide to certify that they'd been properly imported and so forth. (Unfortunately after owning them for a few weeks I noticed the the dye had bled through and if you looked close enough, could see evidence of the stamp on the outside!) If in doubt, you could always ask a furrier what the status might be before actually showing the coat. (and as always, get two estimates!) |
