Re: Happy birthday Alex!

OMG you guys! I am soooooo touched. Thank you so very very much for the birthday greetings and well-wishes. It was probably my best "29th" to date.

Even though I have been up nearly 24 hours straight, suffering desperately from jet lag and flown 9 hours today, I have to post a picture of my new baby before I pass out. I look forward to catching up with things here on the board once I have gotten a good night's sleep.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeere's the baby..........Red Bell Eclipse Bb Cornet in 24K finish.

And she plays like a dream. I am so fortunate to have such incredible instruments. Thank you Leigh, John and Carl for making such a beautiful instrument for me and for such a wonderful week. Also, thanks so much all of you for thinking of me and wishing me well on my birthday. I have so much more to share about my UK trip and some great pictures. I will be posting in the next fews days once I get my bearings. I have so much more I want to say, but it will have to wait I am afraid. I am worn out.

G'nite mates! Cheers!

PS - It was great to see you again TrumpetMike. Thank you for a nice visit. I look forward to seeing you and the rest our UK brothers at this upcoming ITG.

Very nice and welcome back, Alex, we missed you!

Hey, is that a ring on the first slide? I've always found that to be the way to go and it looks like a nice design, for what it's worth.

Yes Manny, that is a wonderful ring on the first valve slide. No saddles or triggers for me. (this instrument originally had triggers) Also, the lyre hold is standard for the Brits even on high end cornets because they use them often for competitions. I decided since it was a British made horn, the lyre hold could stay. I told Leigh I would stick flowers there instead.

Now as pretty as it is, the real beauty is the sound on this instrument. Whoa! Like buttuh right off the bat. I can't wait until it breaks in. It will sound like velvet. The lower register is to die for...truly.

Alex, with all those trumpets sitting on the table why didn't you slip one in your gig bag for me? I'm sure Leigh wouldn't have missed it

This is about the only thing I would change on Alex's cornet - it is a beautiful instrument, but a cornet with rings - shouldn't be allowed - triggers for this Brit.
There is no logic, I hate them on trumpets, but I can't play a cornet with rings, it just doesn't work in my head.

Still - damn fine cornet
