![]() | this in reference to the rant about hiphop earlier in the thread, I tried to quote stravinsky and totally corrupted the quote, It was bothering me for a long time that I would try to quote from memory and I was wondering if I got it right and it turned out I corrupted the quote to the point that I reversed the meaning in it, the corrupted version put emphasis on the importance of respect, whereas stravinsky was putting emphasis on the importance of love. not that I do not beleive that both love and respect have importance but... well I messed up, here's ther real quote: "The trouble with music appreciation in general is that people are taught to have too much respect for music, they should be taught to love it instead" I still like the quote, but I don't know how I remembered it in a way that reverses the argument like that

| Mezzo Forte User | For the record... I am not a big fan of hip hop. I used to be, but then I stumbled upon our 'underground' jazz station and I've been hooked ever since. Since Thanksgiving I've been listening to nothing but jazz and Maurice Andre.... Lara

![]() | Good choices, Lara. But if you like big band playing, I really urge you to listen to the Tonight Show Band CD's. Some incredible playing from Doc and the guys........ Mike By the way, is the "swing" movement still popular down by you? Up here, it is still going, but not with the intensity of a few years ago....... Mike |

I love the rap with the "thumpin" bass, lol. The more obnoxious the better. Shoot, all genres out there are great in their own way, and I love every type out there. ...Except for that new country crap. And the pop, boyband garbage. Why the hell are people like Brittany Spears and Ashley Simpson not drawn and quartered in our town square? Van

I don't know about the 'swing movement'..I did just get interested in jazz only 6 months ago. I'm ashamed to say that I have 3 out of the 4 original Backstreet Boys CDs. I can't believe I used to listen to that crap! I think I'm going to have to check out drumline. Has anyone seen 'Napolean Dynamite'? I heard it was pretty stupid and had no plot...but I also heard it was the funniest thing since sliced bread....(not that I'm saying sliced bread is funny....) Lara

![]() | Sliced bread is only funny when you cut cheese on top of it.......... (Here we go again................) We still do swing dances up here in Minneapolis. It's fun watching people of all ages come out to dance, ranging from high school and college kids dressed in zoot suits to the old-timers were actually alive and witnessed the 30's and 40's swing movement. I really enjoy playing those dances, and I never get tired of playing "In the Nood". Mike |

| Mezzo Forte User | I wish I could swing dance. It looks like so much fun! I'm just too clumsy... The most swing dancing I've been involved in was during the one year I was in show choir (also called swing choir by some) and we had some really easy stuff to do...the song got cut anyway, so I never really did get to dance... Lara
