![]() | The saga has ended!!!! They arrived this morning via USPS and in great shape, although I must admit the box looks like it came from China! (Oh wait, it did come from China!) I put them next to another pair of Nike Shox of the same model but in a different color and they seem to be authentic, or maybe the world's best copies. When I put them on I did have a craving for Peking Duck, and I started saying things in Mandarin Chinese! Until this morning it had not hit me, it is illegal for a US Citizen to buy things from Cuba because they are a communist country (it's considered trading with the enemy), why is it legal for me to order something straight from the Peoples Republic of China? Should this not fall under the same law? Quote:

| Fortissimo User | 1) I'd say you did darn well getting them that fast! Doesn't look like anybody held them up at all. 2) When it comes to international diplomacy & foreign relations, Commerce and trade and $$$ will rule every time. What has Cuba got that the US needs? (Or, conversely, what has the US got that Cuba needs?). Answer: not enough to swallow pride and risk losing face. If Cuba suddenly became an enormous source of oil and was willing to sell it at a fair price you can bet that there wouldn't be anything holding back trade. Example: During the original rebellion that overthrew the Shah of Iran, I was working for a Canadian division of a HUGE American industrial (primarily energy-related) supplier. There was a trade embargo between the US and Iran. How did this company get around the trade embargo? Simple: they had their Canadian division get into partnership with a BIG Japanese industrial firm so that designs and certain manufacturing could be completed "out of country" and supplied directly to Iran (Kharg Island...remember?) without direct US involvement. FACT! Face was saved, commerce moved forward and oil continued to flow (as it still does today in spite of the current "crisis" over nuclear power). "Colour me cynical" when it comes to international politics. |

Also dont forget that China is one of the nations the US is in debt up the wazoo with, if the US government doesnt suck up to them they will start demanding repayment which the US cant do. So the government has to be careful not to tick China off too much.
