| Mezzo Piano User | Lara, I went to college to become a band director. One week with kids who were a few years younger than me and I knew that I enjoyed playing my horn much more than I did teaching. I loved teaching lessons but being around 50 kids in a concert band just wasn't for me. At the time, my chops were what I considered very weak but I knew that I could practice and get into the Army as a trumpet player. Freelancing would have been impossible with the amount of talent out there compared to where I was at as a player. All of this was almost 11 years ago and I am still in the Army. I've been married almost 7 years, and my wife and I just had our first baby 8 months ago. The Army has always taken care of my family and I. My wife has a degree in communications and will be going back to work in April. She is not going back to work for the money but because she enjoys it. Our daughter will be in daycare but for only half a day so that we can spend quality time with her. I am sure that whatever you decide, it will be right for you and your family. You are a bright young girl and I wish you luck in the future.
