![]() | Re: Which instrument is the most evil? Nahhh. Not banjo - Piano Accordian - it has managed almost single handedly to root out and murder traditional ethnic music particularly the non chromatic elements. Thankfully the Scots have resisted and even today in an Australian population of 20m, ten thousand pipers still meet, "play", and wring the very best out of an old sheepskin whilst not wearing their troos. (About 38% of the Australian population has links to Scotland, including me - I'm married to a Scot). Careful how you respond to this.

![]() | Re: Which instrument is the most evil? I have seen piano accordions that have a computer inside, no kidding. They're practically Karaoke boxes with an accordion wrapped around them, pretty scary. It looks like an ordinary accordion then you look and there's a little blue screen with a readout and stuff. They're very expensive too. I'd say those are evil in the same way that anything that has the music all "canned" and discourages learning to play through effort, is evil.

![]() | Re: Which instrument is the most evil? Two more words: Diatonic Harmonica. I was looking at chromatics, wow $100 for a mouth harp. Still, it's tempting..... carry in pocket, might be right jazzy. I still think Flutophone's gotta be about the most evil though.

![]() | Re: Which instrument is the most evil? My buddy's not playing his trombone. That means I might have to fuss around on it. I learned today how the "native american flute" is made .... interesting. Hard to describe, .... you blow into the end, that puts air into a chamber, which then empties across a fipple and chamber with the holes..... the first chamber provides a certain resonance..... I'm considering making 'em to sell around here. Frankly I'm considering inventing weird instruments to sell around here.

![]() | Re: Which instrument is the most evil? THE OBOE! IT IS ALSO THE MOST BLESSED AND DEVINE...when played with perfection. PERFECTION...however is it's downfall. IN MY HANDS...IT CAN REEAAK OUT THE SOUNDS...LIKE FROM THE "PITS OF HELL IN A HANDBASKET!" The majority of Oboe players sound like HELL!!!!! But in the hands of those gifted FEW!!! NOTHING PLAYS AND SOUNDS SOOOOOOO SWEETLY AND PURE AS WHEN PEFORMED BY AN ACCOMPISHED AND GIFTED MUSICIAN. When I was a music major at Pacifici University....I fell in love with a beautiful young lady who could play the Oboe with perfection. She had the face of an angel...but that beautiful face of hers would suddenly change and took on an appearence that looked like a CARTOON CHARACTER FOR SHADES OF "CHUCKY" while she was in the process of playing that HEAVENLY BEAUTIFUL SOUNDING OBOE! I was always afraid that her drop dead beautiful face might some how become "frozen with that pinchy-beaky-tweaky expression!" We used to use practice rooms next to each other and I would often stop, listen and fanatize that those beautiful and glorious sounds next door where like coming from the very gates of heaven played by this beautiful girl of an angel. (As long as I didn't have to see that expression on her face while she was playing that damned OBOE. We were required to learn the basics and play many instruments...and without question, the OBOE was truly the hardest that I ever had the displeasure of attempting to produce sounds of "redeeming value" and to this day.... I still have the most respect for any human soul on this earth...who has guts and dedication and gifts to conquer that mean nasty-little-double reeded lip-bitin basssasssterdly piece of wood pipe...and most importantly, is able to play that instrument with sounds that would would almost think come directly from the right hand of the Father above. With that.... I remain here below...cast out...here below...playing my beloved old Callet trumpets and just doin the best that my old decaying 69 year old body can musta' until my last dying breath. Ahhhh yes!!! Let me dig out my old "Gaberial's Oboe" recording and weeeep! :) |
