I added "on the ground" as in troops on the ground, boots on the ground, and commander on the ground. I always want to scream the question " are there boots hovering?" I also nominated "went missing".

Perhaps, it just seems to me that acclamation has come to stand for “ I am learning how to play the trumpet” and tweaked has come to mean “ I put some dimes in the bottom of my valve caps”.

And don't get me started with "Ground Zero"

I recognize this as meaning a nuclear bomb has detonated over this spot. How this term is misused even to this day!

I submitted "free gift".

I hate that one. It's almost as bad as "for free!" For free what?

It's just "free" as in "I got them to throw in a calendar free!" not " I got them to throw the calendar in for free".

Free of cost.

...for free... For free what?
