MAC question

Does anyone out there know how I can create a complete backup of my PowerBook G4 on a USB drive without having to purchase software? I'm taking it in to get the SuperDrive replaced (for the second time, I'm glad I got AppleCare) and the Apple Store recommended that I do a full backup before I bring it in. I could backup individual files, but I'd rather have all my settings and preferences backed up too.

Thanks,
Jimi

Jimi

You might want to download Carbon Copy Cloner, which is a free software download, but if you like it you can opt to send the guy 10 bucks. It will not only back up your entire drive, but you should be able to boot from it too.

Hope this helps. Lou

You can learn more about it and download it here:

Re: MAC question

I THINK if you make sure you copy the "Library" all your settings will be saved. What I do when I back up my computer is just copy "Stuart" (the name of my computer). It contains "Desktop", "Documents", "Library", "Movies", "Music", "Pictures", "Public", and "Sites".

No guarantees, but this is how I understand it.

Re: MAC question

No cash necessary to back up your mac:

Mac OS X: How to back up and restore your files

This will do everything necessary.

I do not think that you will be able to boot from the USB drive.

Re: MAC question

I ran an apple office for duty free sales back in the 90's. I still like the mac a lot!
