![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Manny in the news Another post documented the refusal of entire string sections to accept A=440......... What's the beef? Fundamentalism, regardless of where it comes from is lack of tolerance and THAT is unamerican! Can an employer even ask about religious beliefs before hiring? In this case it would even be job relevant. My advice is to shop at that store and demand service. Label that cash register "NO PORK" if need be, but fix the problem. Don't try and fix intolerance with intolerance - but don't do the cashiers job either. They can wear rubber gloves and a mask like the dentist if necessary!

13 years ago I worked QC in an environment where there was large amounts of lead floating in the air. (it was a car battery factory that made large batteries for buses) I was made aware of the lead when I took the job. I had to wear all kinds of protective gear since I was handling lead and breathing the air at the factory (through a mask) and was required to shower every day before leaving the plant. They would also check our blood once a month to make sure lead levels were not rising or getting into our blood stream. Well, as soon as my blood showed an increase - no matter how minute - I left the job. I had to make the choice whether it was worth the health risk and I decided it was not. MY choice was not the responsibility of the company for which I was employed however. I could not request (and should not) they change all kinds of things just so I wouldn't be exposed to lead. That was the nature of their business and unavoidable. | |

![]() | Re: Manny in the news Another point (and 40Cal might be able to chime in a bit).....even police officers are not allowed to wear religious symbols on their uniforms. At least here in GA. There was an officer that wanted to wear a small cross pin on her uniform and she was denied. I agree with this.....why? Well, while she is working, she represents the law, not her personal beliefs. She can wear the pin any other time and keep it in her pocket while on duty if she wants to have it with her. This does not make me anti-christian by any means, but when one is in a work environment, there has to be a neutral vibe so folks don't get all bent out of shape over each other's beliefs when they are supposed to be working. The fact that Muslim women are being allowed to wear their veils while working (knowing that it is part of their RELIGIOUS beliefs, not a fashion statement) is very tolerant as far as I am concerned. |

![]() | Re: Manny in the news If I had the ability to pick and choose to whom I rendered police services my life could be a whole lot less aggravating. I cannot and do not allow my personal beliefs cloud my job performance. If I did, I need to find another job. Also my employer would discipline me. Not try and accomodate my desires. Maybe me standing in line for 5 minutes, then waiting another minute to have my current cashier find another in the grand scheme of things is not that big of a deal. But if you cannot do the job because of choices you make, then go find a different one.

![]() | Re: Manny in the news Really, when you think about it, the whole handling pork thing is stupid. Fine, don't touch the pork, but you then touch all of the other groceries that touched the pork, you touch the money that was handled by the person who handled the pork, you touch the grocery carts that had pork in them. Honestly.....it just get ridiculous after a while. If you have strong religious beliefs, then follow through with them whole-heartedly and stay away from where the pork resides altogether. This pork issue seems trivial in the scheme of things. |
