Manny Laureano has a spectacular aura about
If Maynard's "trying to commit suicide by blowing himself up" he sure is taking his sweet time about it. As for playing well... the last time I heard him he was playing with authority and all over the horn. It was great. Does he play as much as he used during the shows? No, but neither does Doc Severinsen who will be 78 on his next birthday. Nevertheless, when he does play he sounds magnificent.

As for listening to Patrick Hession... all I can say is based on what I've heard live there's not a bit of shame for hearing him play. I've heard a lot of lead players by now and Patrick is something else! Fantastic!

Patrick is a monster, but I don't think Carl is with the band anymore. But Patrick always tears it up on the MF hit medley and the encore of birdland. Totally awesome. Check out his website at http://www.hessionssessions.com. He has some cool video and audio files on there.

Maynard's band has certainly had some amazing players in it over the years. If I could play a double-C now I'd be very happy, if I could do it at 75...
