Manny Laureano has a spectacular aura about
Memorial Day 2007

To all the commanders from the days of Valley Forge, to all the grunts In Iraq that lay in wait of the enemy not knowing whether they would see the next dawn, to the airmen that flew over Germany through smoke not being able to see the target with sites set only on completing their mission, to the sailors in the South Pacific that pumped water to keep the ship from sinking just long enough for the gunners to bring down a few more zeroes, to the leathernecks that fought hand-to-hand for their lives in Southeast Asia and in so doing fought for my life here, safe at home...

Thank you for your sacrifice. I promise to never let your battle go for naught.

ML

Re: Memorial Day 2007

This is the first Memorial Day in almost 13 years that I am not playing Taps somewhere in Europe at a cemetery full of Americans. Manny, your post has inspired me to head down the highway and play Taps at a cemetery full of veterans just 3 miles from my house. Good day all. I'm off to honor some veterans.

I think I'll run down to Quantico MCB and do the same thing. Thanks for the inspiration.

Every time I see a soldier in uniform I make it a point to go up to him or her and give them a "THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO... GOD BLESS"

Re: Memorial Day 2007

A huge number of guys we serve at the mission are veterans, and very often what brings them here can be traced back to (in part) the lack of a heartfelt "thank you, how can we serve you?" on the part of our society. Our veterans are heros, and too many alive today have indeed paid with their lives.
Thanks guys, soup's on!
