Re: My 1,000 post

When you play a show or pops concert, there's a sheet with the name of the tune that's being played even though you don't have to play it. Sounds stupid? Not really. It keeps you from playing the next tune by accident while the rest of the band/orchestra is playing the tune before.

In other words, if you have 12 tunes in your "book" but there are 14 tunes in the show, the tacet sheet keeps you from playing #8, a big samba that starts fortissimo on a high C, while the orchestra is getting ready to start playing #7, a quiet balled in A major.

I don't know about you, but it sounds to me like these "tacet sheets" are just formal excuses for trumpet players to scream double G's (with monstrous, obnoxious falls) at the beginning of ballads.

"Mr. Director, I swear, I didn't see the sheet!"

Re: My 1,000 post

Tacet got me once!

We were doing Sousa's Stars and Stripes forever. The strain just before the dogfight; where the Piccolo Flute is very busy was marked 1X Tacet 2X Forte

Since I had never encounted Tacet I made a horrible assumption.....

Hummm Tacet = Take-it.....Close enough.... Ok here we go...

In a blaze of glory I lifted my bell and totally covered our one Piccolo Flute.

The conductor stopped and said, "Ok what happend there?"

I replied, "You stopped?"

He then asked me if I knew what Tacet (Taaa-sit) means. I replied, "Tacet (Take-it)?"

The whole band started roaring with laughter and he then replied, "Well from now on leave it alone"

Live and learn!

Where is the club? I'm finally here.
Maybe this post doesn't count because it's about nothing.
There was a TV show made about nothing that made a lot of money, not that there's anything wrong with that.
There was another new show that was prettee, pretteeee, good. Might be back in the fall.

Something about a four-eyed ____.

One time the conductor said:

"Does any body even know what stringendo means"

I yelled out "stretch it out" every one laughed but the conductor.
