![]() | Re: New Avatar . ..start with the Qantas QF1 incident in Bankok in Sep 1999 - fascinating. Many thanks- will do. Sure appreciate all the help. The need for strong willed people to sometimes press on when it becomes foolhardy is necessary for those souls to 'survive' in their chosen environment - sometimes their judgement can be clouded by circumstance and the need to 'save face'. :) You must be some kind of Instructor Ted. Your readin' me like an open book. That's just what i was tinkering on earlier. Aside from the Pilots' personal psychological warfare, they're juggling stigma as well? Some of which is manipulative. It put me to mind of my feeling duly humbled in considering a Commercial Flying Environment. This being a heart-felt and grounded respect of the job description. Which might be just short of the embarrassing and upsetting hysterics they're exposed otherwise? -I've caught glimpses of what Pilots see on the faces of people while they're walking through the Terminal. It's tormenting from a distance, seeing them quietly try and reassure people. This while getting in front of some good form themselves, or trying to decompress. -And at the other side of it: my own reaction, when hearing statements that they're nothing more than Glorified Bus Drivers. I suspect for the most part, when they hear this kind of BS it's like 'Water Off'a Duck's Back' -as my Daddy used to say. My point's that i liken this kind of calculated regard to Airlines, when leaning on Pilots to seeming-point of 'saving-face'. It's a fair lean, and money in the bank tactic. However paradoxically direct and subliminal the manipulation. They know all too well what makes the sort of individual they're employing, tick. "Saving-face" being a hollow glance at the reality of a Pilot's plate-full, as you've obviously been pointing out Ted. -Given your many years experience, seeing things up close. I'd like to see the corp.'s in the front office, tie on... throw hundreds of people on their back, and get'em to pleasant-point B safely. -And on time(?) :) Sons'a -- foul mouth.. Bleep da bleeepin' ..So and so's.. Bleep'n bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep- Likely it's all far more pronounced with the guys on the ground, keeping them in the air. Mucho Gratis, from here in Sunny Balto. ___________ Please let me offer my self-correction here Ladies: my Mother taught me better than this i can tell you. '..with the (guys) - on the ground.' Not to mention, my insult to all the Gals Piloting as well. A thousand pardons. :) . Last edited by godchaser; 07-11-2008 at 02:00 PM. |

![]() | Re: New Avatar Chris, I'm pleased to have been of some help - follow your dream, aviation is a lifetime of challenges, learning, and a lot of fun. I have the ongoing pleasure of a working life interfacing with dedicated and intelligent practitioners at many levels - and happily, as a comeback trumpeter, I find a similar dedication to purpose and focus on excellence in the TM family. (Well this is a trumpet forum after all).

![]() | Re: New Avatar - Stories like the times when you all caught nearly unrecognizable problems that'd been serious trouble in the air? Fun lovin' rivalries that may get heated from time to time among Pilots and Maintenance? Or do they try and keep ya'll seperated the best they can- :) Any insights on how Upper Management gets after things; the difficulty you all may have getting their mind right. -This was my thinking, or anything that strikes you. If it pleases; and you got the time. :) ______________ Quote: Originally Posted by godchaser -This here's, 'The Green Room' Boss. ___ Actually.........This is the Green Room Boss! -cw- Now see.. this is what's got Ted thinking we're (talkin') like Special Privilege. :) I've never met anybody that didn't Love Airplanes. . ![]() | Re: New Avatar . Loved it since i was'a kid CW. First time i Flew, they were deboarding by stairs then. As we were headed for the Terminal, i walked up to the Plane, reached up, and patted the nose belly like i was hugging my Dog. :) -It pleased me thoroughly. I was very young at the time, but i still remember how the metal felt, and the way i was taken with the rivets and color wear. I was awe-struck. A rush that the Plane was really real, came over me yea! -It was an incredible feeling! The Captain was looking over at me, walking to the Plane, and understood right off what i was doing. My Mother about had'a fit! ..What in the, so and so are-! Get over here! Where do you think you're going! Wheeeew ma-n, she was Chirpin' and meant it. HAAAAAAA- It didn't even occur to me to turn back. I didn't have to turn to see the Captains' approving grin, as Mom was tugging me back to line. I could tell he knew i was grinnin' like Bear-Rabbit myself. It was truly, a great moment. I've wondered from time time whether he remembers that too. I like to think he does. I'm biting at the bit to feel that 'real' again. ..I know Musicians understand exactly my meaning. -Don't know if it was my suggesting to Ted to tell some stories, but that popped to me when i was replying. Anyhow- :) _______ 'The solution for fear of flying (well two of them): i. Knowledge, and ii. Alcohol.' -Ted I was going to suggest a drink or several too, Chuck. Course if your afraid, too much booze'll just make ya mean. :) . Last edited by godchaser; 07-13-2008 at 07:07 AM. |
