The ironic thing is that the enviro-wackos that scream about the evils of gasoline cars are the same folks preventing nuclear power plants from being built. Its the old 'ignorance is bliss concept'. These nut jobs think that achieving affordable, reliable and cleaner energy sources is just a matter of 'trying'. Well, power companies, governments and universities have been 'trying' for years, not sitting around cashing in on kickbacks from oil companies like the Ralph Naders of the world want you to believe. Technically difficult problems take time and money to solve, time and money that is often wasted in legal battles with the extreme, well organized environmental groups. | |

![]() | lots of issues to be resolved with alternative energy --- uncertain reliability, very high capital cost, not suitable for base load, etc. Govt reports that alternative methods cannot provide the reliable capacity except for some peak periods. [projections about 5-10%] Hydro has pretty much reached a peak I thought we were all slaves turning cranks!!! [Oh, sorry that's the apprentice organ players] only major alternative that can provide massive future power requirements appears to be nuclear, only nuclear program that currently appears to provide for extended [more than 100 years or so] reliable power looks like fast nuclear. at least we won't need to hire folks to stuff the waste down rat holes. |
