![]() | Re: OK now which is really cooler, trumpet or sax? - Here ya go Eeviac. Yet another possibility to add to your list there Bud. I was right about a contrabass sax sounding like'a Ship's Horn. :) Wow. Sounds cool though. The guy on that first clip was making some music. I didn't watch the second one through. If you do happen to opt for a contra-sax E, be careful not to play it near any Coastlines. -The whales'll think the Mother Ship's landed. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ieb5IDnXV8o http://youtube.com/watch?v=OOEMadjNziw . As a sax player, you might think I like all things sax. Well NO ! The Contrabass and Bass saxes always seemed to be more of a oddity then a serious instrument to me. While they do make some interesting sounds, I can't picture them being used in a meaningful way.

![]() | Re: OK now which is really cooler, trumpet or sax? OK been away a day ..... lemme get some things streight... I and some friends did a bunch of shooting, we must have gone through well over $100 worth of ammo, then got with some other folks there and did tons MORE shooting.... man behind the gun indeed .... tore 'em up with .22 to .308 to this guy's mucho-dollar "race gun" .45 auto, I LIKED that one, shoots right where you point it, dinging a perfect run on the swinger targets hehe. I've outshot many with a $50 hunkajunk gun and they've got a thousand dollar plus whoozits, hehe. So yeah ..... Trane on one of those homemade sax'ish things they make in the Caribbean would probably run circles around almost all US sax players. Now, this thing about angels, vulgano I really thought you'd know better .... it's obvious that angels actually play trombones. Talk about one of the coolest instruments of all time..... This question of mine comes out of, which is bette for busking which is playing in the street for tips .... I honestly after all this talking and soul-searching have to come to the conclusion that it's the "man behind the gun" again. Frankly no instrument is likely to say someone is 'more' a busker ..... a xylophone or a dulcimer or a didge (yuck!) or a trumpet/cornet.... or for that matter a trombone, which seems to be more popular for busking than I'd suspect, since they're kind of large and delicate. It comes down to the player and being able to play some sweet, sweet music that lures the smiles and coins in. I actually have the movie "Bird". It's a good movie, and there's more trumpet in it than you'd think, since Dizzie Gillespie is in there and a guy named Red Rodney. There's a lot of interplay between the two instruments and well, there's a lot of stuff only a sax can do, but a lot of the stuff played on sax would sound even better to me played clearly on a trumpet. Yes, thanks to Toobz, I have a sax to play around on. And thanks to Max, I have what's supposed to be a very good mouthpiece for it, so I'm set. Except I can't get a sound out yet lol no kidding. So I'm kind of playing around a bit, meanwhile keeping up with trumpet because every practice I'm able to do more. I can hardly wait to get good enough on trumpet to play some cool stuff to put on YouTube - I kind of want to be able to play anything, just like whistling. One thing I gotta say about the sax, wow it's kinda heavy! I mean trumpet's just a light little thing, I never realized that even an alto sax has some weight to it lol. One final thought, trumpet or sax, I wonder what the reaction is if a person just says they play "Jazz". Or "Smooth Jazz". Or something like that. They'll probably get asked what instrument right next, but I wonder if the more positive reactions among the public are because the sax is automatically associated with jazz, while trumpet can be classical, marching band, jazz, or just about anything.

![]() | Re: OK now which is really cooler, trumpet or sax? Actually, a pocket trumpet would have to be red/white/blue like my 1976 Schwinn Stingray, and would have to not sound like #$%$ which I understand pocket trumpets ..... well ... goes with the territory?
