My favorite joke had to do with the best song award.

Jon Stewart:

"Martin Scorcese - zero oscars. Three 6 Mafia - one".

Alex Yates has a little shameless behaviour in the past
The song category was not in the "score" category with Mr. Williams. The scoring for BBM (Gustavo Santaolalla) won out over Munich (John Williams).

Yeah - the whole "song" category is ridiculous.

Toots - I guess "The Daily Show" (Jon's show) wouldn't be one aired in Canada since it deals with mostly our news. Honestly, Jon is a funny and smart guy. I miss his stand-up days.

Okay...re: score vs song category. That tells you how much I was paying attention by that point in the show. Totally disgusting though. Of course, to be honest...a couple of the other supposed "songs" that were up for the award...(something by Dolly Parton about the virtues of the transgendered? and something from Crash, was it? a lone female...very haunting but "nothing" to the tune...)... I guess there was nothing else out there???

How come I'm not buying it? Pure Advertising. Not "award"....

How about the acceptance speech of 3 6 Mafia

I thought the acceptance speech of 3 - 6 Mafia for the Pimp tune was hilarious. Sure it was in bad taste, but the contrast with the rather dull crowd for the evening was a hoot.

As to the tune, I hate to admit it, but I didn't like the Pimp tune, much. I like to think I have eclectic tastes and that as I gain "chronological seasoning" that I become MORE open minded about what is music as opposed to less. However, I felt that the Pimp tune was NOT the strongest. I must conceede that this is only my OPINION, and who am I to judge art! I just didn't like it as much. My fovorite was the miinimalistic tune that was nominated from Crash - a haunting piece given the tenor of the movie itself (which I have seen dozen's of times - my pick for best movie, too!).

I thought Stewart's reaction to the 3 - 6 Mafia acceptance was hilarious, too! His comment that 3 -6 Mafia was going to be mixing it up with Itzach Perlman's posse cracked me up almost as much as his quip that Perlman was finger-syncing his parts!

Just a bit of dumb fun, eh?

Nick

Some of you guys don't seem to get rap.Theres more to it then some of you think. I don't really like that song but there are some rap songs that are way better then any other song dominated for that category. This elitist attitude towards rap gets old fast. Rap is not suppose to be pure music, it's a fusion of music and poetry. If a rock song can win this category then so can a rap song.

Hey...I agree. It wasn't meant to be elitist....but come on. This tune (?) was a far cry from being oscar worthy. You said so yourself...re: better rap tunes. I get the Rap scene. But just as I may not care for some of it or any other genre...I can still pick out the better (to me) stuff.
Not a cut on Rap in general...just this one.

Nick....who are you to judge art? I don't know..."a person"? You can judge it for yourself, man. I think we sometimes get into worrying about "not liking something" or at the very least stating our opinions.... but it's really okay! Just because an art form is out there, doesn't mean we have to like it....

Gotta go listen to some Us3......
