![]() | Re: Rant: Neighbors Then if it is inconvenient for you to move elsewhere to do your practicing then why not try to set up some type of soundproofing system to cut the level of noise being transferred from your practice area. Perhaps some kind of arrangement can be worked out with your landlord on sharing the cost of it. Just because something may be your "legal" right does not mean that it is an ethical right, and may come back to bite you in the end. |

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Rant: Neighbors I agree. Your neighbor can make your life a living hell, while staying completely within the requirements of the law and the leasing contract. I would advise you NOT to get into that kind of a pissing match. I would schedule a formal meeting between yourself, the neighbor, and the landlord, and work out a compromise that is acceptable to all parties. You probably need something pretty official, because you never knjow when the current resident will move and a really bitchy neighbor will replace them.

![]() | Re: Rant: Neighbors You are all making me REALLY glad not to be living in apartments any more! I had some pretty good luck with a couple of my past apartments, though - one was a unit at the back of a single -family house. The owner lived in the house, and was never home, so no noise complaints there. The other was above a buisiness that wasn't concerned about noise during the day, and was closed at night. I could practice at 9am or 3am without worring about complaints! Also, if one of your trumpet player buddies moves out of a place where no one complained, snap it up. That tactic has also worked for me. When all else fails, save for a house, or own the apartment building! There's nothing they can do when you're the landlord, and it's a sound investment.
