Take A Relaxing Break

Regardless of your physical condition, your present state is determined by your thoughts. Your emotional reality depends upon the focus of your mind.

Today, think of five places, either places you have already visited or would like to, that you can go to for mental vacations. Mentally go to a place where you will automatically experience the state you wish to be in.

Remember: Since we are dealing with your mind, no place is too far away. And the transportation costs are always free.

I just thought of the place I met Marilyn Chambers and got my picture taken with her--now I won't be able to get any more work done today!

Re: Take A Relaxing Break

Hey Vulgano Brother, I too had my picture taken with Marilyn Chambers at a Tattoo show in Schenectady, NY about three or four years ago. She was a nice person.

Yes, a very warm, loving person--when she put her arm around me I positively melted.

Re: Take A Relaxing Break

Isn't it amazing how quickly we trumpet players can take a spiritually uplifting idea and drag it down to the gutter? Marilyn Chambers - haven't thought of her in years...now I'm going to be preoccupied for the rest of the evening! Thanks, guys.

Cheers,
Chas

Sums it up quite well: "emotional reality depends upon the focus of your mind." As a trumpet player, as a musician, it is my job to convey the emotional reality of other people, often long dead, for other people still alive, and while doing so, put my own little spin on that emotional reality, at least as far as good taste and the conductor allows. (This is perhaps the best argument for having conductors!) I have imaginary places to go to, in the company of Bach, Stravinsky, Glass and many, many more. For me, however, it is not really an escape--it is more of an exploration--a bit of science, fun and excitement at the same time. Trying to follow four fugue voices at the same time really gets me "out there!"

This in part explains my "irrevelant" Marilyn Chambers reference--we can indeed choose to go anywhere we want, and while reducing stress is good, that is nothing like what music brings to the soul.

In talking about "Peak Experiences" Maslow said that two of the most effective ways of achieving that are through music and sex. Give me Marilyn and a Monette, and I'll be in nirvana! In the meantime, I've got some etudes scales to converse with.

Don't imagine anything I wouldn't!
