Annie,
the average sax player may be 145 pounds, the average trumpet player fills his part more substantially! The warmdown in the bar afterwards means that playing trumpet is a zero calorie activity.................

Re: For those of you trying to get more exercise in...

"Playing the trumpet requires a steady breathing pattern and engages the forearms, fingers, biceps and shoulders in constant movement. You will be involved with pressing down various keys to play different notes and breathing into the instrument to create each level of sound; most trumpet players do so standing up, and this can be a low to moderate aerobic exercise."

Nothing for the Abs? No wonder so many of us have tummies!

Seriously, join an R & B Band and dance/step with the horn for a 4 hour gig. That along with set-up and tear down of sound, lights, & music gear will give you a nice little workout.

I didn't realize pressing down the 'keys' was that hard.....the valves, eh, depending on trumpet...
