![]() | Daum, Out of curiosity, where are you going to go in Jamaica? We were in Ohcos Rios. The island is gorgeous but beware, poverty and tourism make for poor companions. Have fun and let us know how the trip goes. Where is Boundry Waters? did you say fishing? got room?

| Fortissimo User | Thev, Boundary Waters is that area immediately north of the western tip of Lake Superior... mega forest/rock/lakes/streams. Incredible canoeing, fishing and camping. Not much "up and down" but lots of swamp and marshy land ("cross country" isn't the easiest). The Canadian side of the "line" features Quetico Provincial Park. Some of the lakes are big enough for powerboating... but it can be rather tough to get the truck and boat trailer in to them! Good place to go listen to the loons AND the silence. Pull your backpacks up into a "bear cache" at night though... or you'll be going hungry before you get home. Good map, compass and GPS is real handy as well (trees and rocks tend to start looking "all the same"). I'm envious.... been camping in that general area once 'way back when. Daum... enjoy yourself....it's a great place to "take out your brain and give it a good laundering". But man oh man... what a contrast with Jamaica! |

| Pianissimo User | Thanks for your interest everyone....... Just some quick things before I head back out.... The Jamaica trip was great fun. My favorite part was the people. All of the Jamaicans are so laid back and kind (at least the ones we met/saw). There seemed to be mostly British in the area we stayed. You can always pick them out because they always have soccer jerseys on. I made friends with a few of them and had an interesting time comparing and contrasting our countries. It is akward walking down a hallway and having someone tried to walk down their left as I try to walk down my right. I personally would never want to drive a car or vehicle there because first of all they drive crazzzy (passing on corners and such) and I would never get used to driving on the left. We were in Montego Bay and my father and I took a trip to Dunns River Falls. In the past three summers, my family has visited the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Jamiaca. Of the three, Jamaica has the best personality and I would highly recommend visits to any of the three (pm or email me if you want details of where to go and stay). Now for the Boundary Waters, which we are leaving for shortly, should be just as great. We have done many things like this, as families and with scouts, so it should be more of a relaxing and "no problem," as the Jamaicans would say, trip. Anyone else gone through Philmont?? Keep talkin guys and gals.... Irie---Jared
