![]() | First car was a 1962 Rambler American. Then many since including 1941 Chevy PU, 1950 Dodge PU, a VW, . . . Now I drive a 1999 Saturn SL2. My 1998 Saturn was destroyed when a drunk hit me head-on when I had my two young daughters with me. They said the car saved us, so I figued why give up on a good thing. My next car will be a hybrid or I may get a Honda Element or Toyota "Box Car." Either way it will be my last car.

![]() | 1st: 1965 International Harvester half-ton pickup. Bought it with 200,000 miles on the odometer and sold it 7 years later with 270,000 miles on it. Current: 2000 Chevy Metro hatchback. I've put almost 100,000 miles on it and have averaged 40 mpg. More money for horns and mouthpieces!

![]() | First car - Mini (a classic - not the current BMW things with the Mini badge - these modern things are NOT Minis). It didn't like the wet, nor hills - I was in Huddersfield - we got on famously (a little joke for the UK members Current car - Ford Focus. It gets me from A to B very comfortably and has a boot that seems to have been designed to fit trumpet cases. |

Well, I've heard mixed reviews on these VWs. This is my second Passat (had a 96 TDI before this one), and my father has driven VWs since he started with the Beetle as his first car. Guess I am carrying on the tradition. My 2002 has had no problems whatsoever. A complete joy to drive, and it's actually fairly quick with the 5-speed and 1.8 turbo. Most people I talk to love the 2001.5-present Passats, with the occaisonal few hating them. Not many in the middle. There are a good number of people out there with over 100k on the clock and no problems. My family has owned three Passats, a Quantum(precursor to the Passat), two or three Rabbits, and a Beetle. The only car that gave us any problems was the first Passat (1991 I believe). It was a lemon, had some electrical and transmisson issues (the only automatic VW we've ever had, go figure). What would you like to know exactly? I'm no expert at all, but I'd be happy to tell you what I've experienced. I am sure others have good information too. Eric | ||
