Re: What Luck I must have!

I have been pulled over 3 times in 17 years of driving. Twice for speeding and once because my car matched the description of a car used in a robbery. In the two cases of speeding, I was nice and polite and only received warnings. Why just a warning? Probably because while the officer was walking up to my vehicle, I thought to myself, "Just be nice and cooperative. Maybe the cop has had just as bad of a day as you." Since both violations were for less than 5 over the speed limit and I respected the gentlemen, they returned the favor.

When we deal with people on a day to day basis, remembering that their day may have been just as bad as ours can help an unpleasant situation resolve itself quickly and painlessly.

Glad you were able to avoid the ticket John.

You had a clean record. That's no accident, that's hard work.

You spoke politely to him and had your license and registration at the ready instead of making him uncomfortable by rooting thorugh jackects and glove boxes while he'd have to wait to see of you were going to pull a gun.

Nope, getting a warning was no accident. You worked hard for it by being decent. Watching Chris Rock's video primer, "How to Not Get Your @ss Kicked by the Police" ( Chris Rock: How Not to Get Your Ass Kicked by the Police (( foul language alert)) ) was probably helpful as well. I've had officers let me off, too, when they had me dead to rights just by not acting like a jerk.

Manny,

This was friggin' halarious!

I laughed so hard sitting at my desk that I thought I was going to wet myself!

Thanks for the link...

I agree with you and many others here.. I learned a long time ago you get respect when you give it. Had I started off differently with the officer this could most certainly had a different outcome!

Dave; Wow! I think your post sure says it all. I have the highest respect for anyone who stands a watch and says nothings going to hurt you tonight; not on my watch! Weather it's a soldier, trooper, sheriff, marshall, border patrol agent, FBI, or city cop!

I am a bit embarrased that this thread took an unexpected direction at my expense!

Here's a link showing just why I have the respect for Law Enforcement that I do:

Sorry, I should have posted my one and only negative experience with law enforcement in another thread.

Perhaps someday I'll share some of the numerous other stories about law enforcement officers.

I have many humorous stories related to me by one of my best friends in TX who worked in several different areas of law enforcement, from a beat cop in Dallas, to a Deputy Sheriff to an undercover narcotics agent (years ago).

He wasn't afraid to share stories that made me laugh and he could laugh at himself too. Maybe their's something about Southern folks that allows them not to take themselves too seriously, don't know. It seems I was wrong to assume he wasn't the only cop that enjoyed cop-related humor.
