Re: When not playing?

After our conductor banned reading at rehearsals we used to drive him crazy by pretending to carry on animated conversations while counting the rests in out head. Fun stuff.

Re: When not playing?

You know how in the South most fatal accidents begin with "Hey, y'all... watch this..."? Well, this is sort of like that.

Doug Carlsen, my associate principal, drinks more diet cola than anyone I know. He invariably has a bottle of the stuff on stage. Every so often he has to leave the stage during a long rest for whatever reason, to get a mute or some such piece of equipment.

That is generally my cue to grab his soda bottle and shake it for about ten seconds. Well, usually that works out to be fairly funny except for the most recent time last year. I grabbed the botle and didn't bother checking to see if the cap was screwed on firmly.

It wasn't.

I got Coke all over my pants, the bottom of my shirt, my mutes on the floor, and my horn. The best part of it all was the huge "SSSHHHHHHH..." sound that accompanied the laws of physics.

Incredibly, Osmo didn't hear it for a change. but the woodwind and violists got an eyeful of the aftermath. Thank G-d I was wearing black clothes.

Did it make any difference to the sound?
Is this a new finish that Monette will be offering - "pre-Coked"?
