Re: Why I'm proud...

Congrats Manny!

While I can't fully appreciate the gravity of winning such honors I do understand the importance of music education!

You and the Orchestra are a shinning example of what can be accomplished with a little effort and a lot of passion.

I hope one day I'll have the privledge of seeing you and the MO live!

Re: Why I'm proud...

Music is an ENRICHMENT subject. It is a class that makes our lives BETTER!!! You should be very proud to be part of a group that is singled out as one of the best at making the lives of young people better!

As a young man growing up in the suburbs of Washington DC I was able to hear the military bands and NSO often. My life was made so much fuller by the experience of being exposed to such great music. It was not until I was not able to offer that same experience to my own child that I truly realized how fortunate I was as a child.

I salute your organization for making the effort to bring music to the masses, and for going out of your way to bring it to the youngest members of our society!

Re: Why I'm proud...

Congrats! Two of my friends who are getting married soon (Joel and Miranda, bass bone and flute) met in your orchestra, and constantly effused about the educational experiences the cities had to offer.

I'd venture to say that this website--where the quality of the posts and the cooperative spirit of the posters are unique among the worldwide web--and the wonderful radio/internet broadcasts of the MO extend the education beyond Minnesota and into the world. About once every few weeks, I waste an eighth of a tank of gas idling to figure out which piece and orchestra I'm hearing, and invariably, when I can't turn the car off, it's the MO. Especially the classical-period works that I've heard stand out for being very absorbing and committed readings, without being gimmicky or gaudy. I wish I lived in MPLS-St Paul!

Those are very true statements. I know that I truly enjoyed having the opportunity to have him conduct us.
