![]() | The funny thing is, the St George cross was originaly the flag for Aquitaine in France and was brought over when some French royle babe married an English king. England were pants last night, let's hope things improve when we cane Germany in the next round!!! |

![]() | ....and George wasn't even English! He was a Christian Arab (Syrian I believe and buried in Iran) who was fighting the Muslim arabs in the crusade and the English were so impressed with his victories they decided to make him the English Patron Saint! By the way after the group stages it is the last 16 - not the quarter finals! I thought the US played quite well against the Czech team who were unfortunatley just too good for them and could go on to win the tournament. Do you US folks know that your team is seeded 5th and England is 10th!!!!!? I would like to see the US progress to the next round. Get behind your team and support them! - I think it's the only major team sport you play on the world wide stage? Maybe Ice Hockey but that's not as major sport world wide as Football, Rugby, Cricket which are probably the three largest team world sports. Good luck to all of your teams! Come on England! Graham. |

| Mezzo Piano User | Being an American in Germany right now is tearing me apart. Not to mention, my wife is German. The US team is capable of better play and Italy could have an off game. The US will have to control the pitch from the start to win that one. Germany has the 12th man and that can be enough when you are as good as they are right now. They are not the most talented German team I've seen, but their drive to win is incredible. I can't believe they have so many shots on goal in just two games. Not typical of the German defense oriented teams in the past. Hats of to Trinidad and England yesterday. A great game that was closer than the score would indicate. Some of the best saves were made by defenders and not the goalies. I think it was Terry for England who had the save of the tournament. Can't really remember his name. Good luck to all teams involved. I will be making my way to Berlin on the 23rd to get in the World Cup mix.

![]() | Hi Gary, I hope you do well against Italy - I will be one Brit supporting you! What's the atmosphere like over there in Germany? - I bet it's great. England didn't play well again last night but at least they scored 2 decent goals and if you win when you're not playing well that's not too bad! Trinidad and Tobago did well, but I felt sorry when Dwight Yorke had the ball propelled into his "Michael Ballacks" at high speed from Gerrard- ouch! Graham |

| Mezzo Piano User | Graham, Think you have Gary and I confused. Yes, we are both married to Germans, love German beer, and are in the Army. Gary is the one with the chops and I am the one with the temper. BTW, Argentina just destroyed Serbia, 6-0. They will have to be dealt with.

![]() | Hi Mike and Gary, Sorry about the mix up!!! I watched the Holland Ivory Coast match and I really wanted the Ivory Coast to win - I thought Holland played very dirty looking for fouls, holding other players, diving etc and that the Ivory Coast looked a really good team and were unluckt to lose. They would have been good to watch in the next round - one of the best African teams I have seen in a while - a shame they didn't make it and have to go home. Graham |
