Re: 4 Valve Bb Horn?

Thats a good clip, Lew sounds great. I'd love to see someone call up Schilke and get another one of these. If you get it in M bore, it would be the same valve section as the E3L-4 or pic, just with longer slides. C'mon, someone do it!

Re: 4 Valve Bb Horn?

Well,i think i will go with Joe's,i dont wanna lose an arm or leg or anything other than cash...

but is it really worth it? other than intonation, range and alternate fingerings, what else are the benefits of a 4-valve instrument compared to its respective 3-valve couterpart?

The 4-valver would be significantly heavier and would make a better weapon, if a fight broke out in the club you were playing in and you needed to clear a path to the door.

Re: 4 Valve Bb Horn?

Trumpets are a lot lighter to begin with, and the percent of the total weight is probably a lot higher.

And yes,Im not talking about quatertone trumpets....just normal Bb horn with 4 valves....
Long time ago I've seen one b flat (and a C) in England.
Basically, it was a standard b flat with a rotary extension on third slide. 1/2 tone.
I don't know if it is helpful on b flats, but it could be interesting for C trumpets... Remember Carmen prelude ???

Re: 4 Valve Bb Horn?

I offer a 4-valve Bb as a custom Bauerfeind valveset option. The 4th valve will add your choice of a 2nd, 3rd or 4th below pitch. I have two demo Bravura trumpets coming available next week with the 4th valve option.

Re: 4 Valve Bb Horn?

With moveable 1st and third slides, the fourth valve doesn't add anything to the intonation except lower the instrument a forth. That is the fun part. The downside is that usually three valve instruments (ok, my experiences have been of piccolos and Eb's) have better response.

Sounds like a fun thing to try, though!
