Re: The $50 Trumpet Experiment [Image Heavy]

.

What'd you use to protect the finish, and keep a crisp line seperating the polished finish from the brushed, there Brekelefuw? Could it be used to create a contrast design-pattern over the entire horn?

Looking sharp.

I used masking tape. There is one point where the masking tape got broken, so there is a bit of a skewing of the line, but overall the line is about 90% straight.

Just remember that electronics use different kinds of solder than brasswork. Electronics have resin-core, while brass uses lead solder and flux to make it flow.

Re: The $50 Trumpet Experiment [Image Heavy]

wouldn't it be terrible if brek was able to make that $50 perform like an expensive trumpet................................
The differences can be merely fractions of an inch and a bit of luck sometimes.......

Actually, we don't use resin-core solder for electronics. We use standard 63/37 soft-solder and flux. The US Navy is required to solder at NASA standards due to the vibration on ships. Resin-core solder just doesn't stand up to the strain of being out to sea.

What guage brass stock did you use to make your braces?
