This should be post number 1,000 for me.

Good recommendation. There is money to be earned with a picc!

1000 wives, now that must be one demographical cross section of what is available in America...................

Picc is sure a beast if you haven't had any proper lessons, though! I wouldn't recommend picc until you're able to study it with someone. I improved on picc very quickly with the right teacher, but didn't get too far by myself, even though I had taken years of lessons by then. All my lessons were jazz, and I had no concept of what to do with a picc till I studied. It's a lot easier to get a start on flugel or C if you are a less experienced player.

Rowuk,

You and many mention that a picc can make money. I assume you are referring to wedding work, or something else? Obviously playing it well is a pre requisite, but how do you mean specifically vs. how it can enhance financially vs. just playing the Bb and C?

Perhaps an unsophisticated question, but I value your opinion and point of view.

I mean "church money" like weddings and concerts. There is so much chamber music that is too massive with a Bb or C and not everybody owns or can play a picc. There have been stations in my life where the picc generated over 90% of what I earned with the trumpet.

Re: After getting a Bb... Then what?

Thank you for the feedback regarding the picc and it's earning potential if it is played well.

Re: After getting a Bb... Then what?

In most parts of the world, symphonic players use only b flat, e flat/D and piccolo.
C trumpet is helpful, but not a real must.

I don't think that's true. You will see C trumpet in symphony orchestras in the USA. There's a lot of other things to play.

Re: After getting a Bb... Then what?

So, to transpose from Bb music to C music, all you have to do is move everything up a whole step, right? It's just the getting used to doing it without thinking. Am I right here?

Re: After getting a Bb... Then what?

and add two sharps/take away too flats. However you want to think about it. So if your playing in F. Lets say for trumpet. so you ahve one flat, and you want to transpose it to C, you would move every not up a whole step and you would add two sharps. So one sharp would make it C, and another would make it G, with one sharp.

To read Music in Bb, that is written in C. you do the opposite, move everything down a whole step, and take away two sharps/add two flats.
