Not meant in a flame-like statement:

I thought Doc was #1 in that category... even though basically they all are the same instrument made by different craftsmen.

Since the mid 90's:

Akright
Getzen again
Scodwell
Destino Germany
Destino US

I might be leaving one or two out as well.

No-one has changed more than I have, though. 100's of horns that just didn't work in the past few years.

Best,

Trent

Manny,Maybe Mr. Sandoval needs to go with Monette, then he wont need to play anything else. . Would you go see him at the Dakota?? If so maybe I will see you there. Ofcourse if your schedule allows.

Well, if I could play like Wynton (Marsalis), I wouldn't play like Wynton.

Arturo used to play a Monette trumpet albeit very briefly... and I think the B5 piece was created with him in mind. In fact in John McNeil's Art of Jazz Trumpet there's a picture of Arturo playing the Monette. The caption's even better than the pic.

Yes, I am a nerd.

Student, According to his schedule on his website 1/29 and 1/30, he will be at the Dakota, subject to change I am sure. I have been to quite a few gigs at the Dakota and have always bought my tickets directally thru them. I doubht any our for sale for that show just yet though.

It's all perception Manny -- he sells his name to the highest bidder, but he plays the same horns he always has. He is still playing on a Schilke (B2 I think) and his flugel is still the Kanstul 1525. Like I said in a previous post, in a clinic situation he uses the "flavor of the month" but on recordings and serious concerts he uses his old favorites.

That's one reason you will never see an AS Yamaha -- they make you play the horn that has your name on it for ALL public appearances.

Cornet1,
That is the head from a piece called Guaguanco, from the Danzon CD.

I'd be interested to know the source information regarding Arturo's continued use of Schilke's in serious concerts and recordings. I've seen his twice over the past few years (okay, it was in Milwaukee...so perhaps that's not a "serious" concert...and yes it's in Leblanc's back yard), and he was using the Leblanc for sure...and sounded fantastic as usual. Also, as we all know, Schilke's sound sterile. And...frankly Arturo sounded rather sterile (in my opinion) on recordings UNTIL Hot House...which was his first post-Leblanc CD release. Don't know about you all out there...but I heard a HUGE difference in terms of fullness of sound, overtones, etc. Coincidence? I'm by no means a Leblanc fan...although I've never played a 357, and I do believe it was all about cash...but the sound is the sound. Thoughts?

dcstep is on a distinguished road
Could post the picture of Arturo with the TT? I can't find it on the site.

On the index page, right after the intro, I see what looks like a silver Selmer Paris Chorus (80J is a type of Chorus, which can't be differentiated from a distance). The Chorus 80J is a wonderful trumpet, and not all that tight playing compared to most pro trumpets. I may buy one myself, but it's down on my list, after the Eclipse flugel and a YTR-9445CHS. With my '46 Committee and '57 K-Mod I really don't need anymore "backup" trumpets.

Dave
