![]() | Well, how often should the new Bauerfeind valves be cleaned? Also, what kind of cleaning? I mean is swabing the casing and wiping the valve enough, or does it need to be a full bath?

| Fortissimo User | Hi Mike. When the horn was new I had to clean mine every day: a full rinse, swab & reoil sufficed. Once a week I'd give it a full tear-down/bath. This is necessary, especially on gold plated horns, because Leigh advised that there are tiny flecks of the plating stuff AND "shop grit" that continue to get rinsed out for some time. He said that when the swab would be clean then you could reduce the frequency. I did that for a couple of weeks, then changed routine to every few days for the rinse and once a month for full bath. It's amazing how much stuff comes out of the slides and tubing and can get into the valves so be sure to "snake" it out thoroughly when doing the "full bath" routine. After about 6 months or so I was able to get away with just oiling every few days, wipe/swab valves every couple of weeks, and a full bath about every 3 months or so OR WHEN THE VALVES START TO SLOW DOWN... whichever comes first. After 2 years I'm still at that frequency. |
